ABOUT THIS PROJECT
The 2023 Fly Byes project began with bi-weekly Facebook posts by Moschioni featuring digital photomontages of cosmic train graffiti, nature, and Houston’s Bayou City Jazz & Blues performance images in 2023.   The promotional montages were followed by live music performance videos. Partner artist Melelani Petersen of Amatol Productions created “Fly Byes” short film blending photomontages, original video montages and documentary interviews paying tribute to blues Musician Texas Johnnyboy and Milton Hopkins.  The project’s inspiration was Texas Johnnyboy’s (John Moschioni) Facebook posts of train car graffiti images in 2020.  The short film premier debuted at the Orange Show’s Smither Park in tandem with live blues music by Jonn Del Toro Richardson’s band and eclectic gulf coast music by the Hipwaders Flying Circus led by Clint Boyd and Dennis Clapp. The public event included Art in the Heart bus art workshops and featured some of Houston’s finest low rider cars.
The project was funded in part by the City of Houston through the Houston Arts Alliance Let Creativity Happen grant.  The project benefited by the Orange Show’s ability to include “Fly Byes” as part of their music in the park series.
